Elle Barbara + Vjosana Shkurti + Alexander Storm
Interactive making-of. Underground champion Elle Barbara steps in front of the camera to gear into music video mode for a new, unreleased cover of the Diane Tell classic “Si j’étais un homme” (1980). Set in a black box setting and nodding to Old Hollywood Golden Age glamour, a virtual session will be put in place and offer a behind-the-scenes look before the video’s release. The session will cap off with a live sing-along to which everyone is invited.
Elle Barbara is an avant-garde singer-songwriter, song selector (TS Ellise), pinup, writer and artist who rose from artist-run spaces to a career whose highlights include duets with Laetitia Sadier, R. Stevie Moore, Bertrand Burgalat & Sean Nicholas Savage. In recent years, Barbara’s efforts have been mostly centered around trans community organizing, as well as Montreal’s emerging ballroom scene. Their band (Elle Barbara’s Black Space) aims to re-center blackness and reject anti-black tropes within music and art spaces. For this project, Elle Barbara works closely with Vjosana Shkurti (cinematography), Alexander Storm (editing), as well as Christopher Marlot (production design).
