recomposed memories, muddles desires, and silent wounds, a man sits alone in his living room, staring, lost in scattered memories: Nasser&#8217;s 1956 speech on the nationalization of the Suez Canal, a musical show from his childhood. Gradually, the partitions shift, rise, and collapse; the domestic space tips into a floating world, where intimate memories, past and present intertwine, as if in a dream.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Drawing on bold cinematic and scenographic language, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Al Warda <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014 the rose in Arabic \u2014 is an autofiction that choreographs the gaps of memory, the violence of exile, uprooting and the desire to belong. A Montreal-based artist of French-Egyptian origin, Flame addresses the fragmentation of memory and identity narratives, as well as the distortion of dramaturgical space-time. More often than not, they get it wrong. One oversteps, the other absorbs. The boundaries they thought they understood begin to blur. It is painful and pathetic, at times humiliating, disorienting, or shameful. It is also trying, unsettling, despairing, foolish, and overwhelming. A deeply alienating experience, yet rich in reflection, at once childish, repulsive, depressing, immature, and terrifying.<\/p>\n<p>At times, in a fleeting moment, they realize they understand each other perfectly. The truth becomes self-evident. Conceived as an intensive creation residency, it supports emerging artists in developing short works and culminates in the presentation of these pieces. By bringing two YOU ARE HERE projects to the OFFTA, LA SERRE shares a glimpse into artistic processes unfolding beyond the festival season.
