Escape
Julianne Chapple | Future Leisure
Escape is a one on one interactive performance exploring themes of escapism, psychogeography, corporeality and the dissociation from the body that comes with an increase of online interaction. This individualized experience is delivered through your phone between midnight and 3am and draws your attention to your physical body in space, exploring the potentials and restrictions of both real and virtual worlds.
Future Leisure is based on the ancestral and unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), səlil̓wətaɁɬ (Tsleil-Waututh), and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) Nations also known as Vancouver and is dedicated to the creation, presentation and instruction of contemporary movement practices. Previous creations include interdisciplinary installation performance Suffix, an exploration of transhumanism and immortality, and No More Fantasies, a demonstration of strength, co-operation and consent by female performers. Future Leisure produces the Shooting Gallery Performance Series twice a year, creating an opportunity for emerging artists working across performance disciplines and runs classes and workshops for movers of all experience levels.
