What are shitshows, and how do they come about? Embedded in the industry of the performing arts, which operates under the unwritten rule that “the show must go on,” four street dancers reveal the highs and lows of their artistic careers. As they reflect on these eclectic and unsettling experiences, one question arises: should they walk away, or surrender to the captivating absurdity? Blurring the lines of representation, Dominique Sophie humorously examines the boundaries of working artists’ integrity.

Street dance, with its emphasis on freestyle, inspires Dominique Sophie’s creative process, which emerges from improvisation. A dancer, choreographer, and teacher, she creates within the cultural contexts of vernacular dances with deep respect. She explores various settings—stage, battle, nightclub, cypher—to understand how context shapes the interpretation and perception of dance.
