BIOGRAPHICAL NOTES

Founded by artistic director Ravi Jain, Why Not Theatre is a critically acclaimed, multiple award-winning, Toronto-based theatre company with an international scope. Over the last six years, they have developed over 14 productions, touring to 15 different cities on four continents. In recent years, the company has also become known for its presentation of international productions and workshops from diverse cultures and artistic practices, along with support for the development of local emerging artists and companies.

Complicite Creative Learning is part of internationally acclaimed theatre company Complicite and produces projects, performances and learning opportunities for people all across the world.

Ravi Jain is a multi-award-winning actor, director, producer, educator, arts-activist, and he is the Artistic Director of Why Not Theatre. His acting credits include the Dora Award-winning SPENT and A Brimful of Asha. Select directing credits for Why Not include The Prince Hamlet, I’m So Close, A Brimful of Asha, Greenland and Iceland. Currently, Ravi is among 12 resident artists at the Young Centre for the Performing Arts and was a member of the DiverseCity Fellows program, which aims to diversify leadership across sectors in Toronto. He was recently awarded the 2012 Pauline McGibbon Award and is the Artistic Director-in-Residence at the Theatre Centre for 2013.

Rose Plotek  is a director and theatre maker. She is currently coordinator of the Directing program at the National Theatre School.
