Following the presentation of askîwan ᐊᐢᑮᐊᐧᐣ, a conversation moderated by Gabriel Dharmoo (member of the OFFTA programming committee) will bring together Tyson Houseman and his artistic team to explore the inner workings of this interdisciplinary work. Combining live video projections, dynamic scenography, classical and electroacoustic music, this multimedia opera offers a nehiyaw perspective on time and territory, in dialogue with today’s ecological crisis.
Inspired by the six-season calendar and the cosmological teachings passed down by his Elders, Tyson Houseman’s creation presents a cyclical and non-linear relationship to time through an immersive atmosphere where landscapes, voices, and projections intertwine. This discussion will offer a deeper dive into the collaborative process behind the work, examine the aesthetic choices shaping its visual and sonic language, and explore the intersections between the various disciplines and cultural frameworks that inform its creation.
An invitation to delve into the richness of askîwan ᐊᐢᑮᐊᐧᐣ and to understand how notions of interdependence, memory, and territory take shape in real time.
Offerings
As part of the OFFTA, LA SERRE – arts vivants organizes activities and conversations that allow the live arts community to reflect on its practices and to engage with the artists presented during the festival.
Offerings provide an opportunity to gather for reflection, celebration, or experimentation. Activated by the artists in the program, curators, and collaborators, these meetings – in the form of conversations, workshops, or celebrations – are all free and invite participants to dive deeper into the artists’ creative processes.
